Financial literacy is so important to Canadians that in June 2009, the Minister of Finance announced the establishment of Canada's Task Force on Financial Literacy to help create a cohesive national strategy to support initiatives across Canada aimed at improving financial education. It is common for students to graduate from high school without basic money management knowledge, left on their own to learn financial skills through trial and error. To help students learn the essentials of personal finance, Visa launched its in-school financial literacy resource 'Choices & Decisions' in 2006, followed by the consumer focused Practical Money Skills in 2007.

Choices & Decisions is educator-developed and educator-approved, and the program reaches thousands of students across Canada. Teachers can download or order a free copy of Choices & Decisions here.

At Practicalmoneyskills, educators, parents, and students can access free educational resources including personal finance, games, lesson plans, and more. Our Practical Money Skills booklet is available for download here in English, French, Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic and Punjabi.
