Visa Welcomes the Appointment of Jane Rooney as Canada's New Financial Literacy Leader
Toronto, ON – April 15, 2014 – Visa is pleased with the appointment of Jane Rooney as Canada's new Financial Literacy Leader. The announcement by the Hon. Kevin Sorenson, Minister of State (Finance) confirms the Government of Canada's important and timely role in encouraging financial literacy among Canadians.
At Visa, we believe we have a responsibility to provide consumers with the tools and information they need to make sound financial decisions. We have long supported financial literacy initiatives in Canada and around the world, including through our Practical Money Skills website and Choices & Decisions curriculum, which have reached over 500,000 Canadian students. The new Leader will play a key role promoting cooperation among all stakeholders to achieve better financial literacy for all Canadians. We stand ready to work with Ms. Rooney on these important issues.
The new Financial Literacy Leader is one of the many important legacies of the late Minister of Finance, the Hon. Jim Flaherty. Minister Flaherty made financial literacy a national priority through the Financial Literacy Task Force and the Financial Literacy Leader Act. Visa also wishes to applaud James Rajotte, M.P., Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee of Finance, for his continued leadership promoting the financial education of all Canadians.
